Welcome to the Autumn Term

Welcome back to the start of the autumn term at Swing Gate School. This term, we will focus on welcoming the children back to school and establishing class routines. The children will have lots of opportunities to play together and re-establish friendships.

Our theme is 'Amazing Animals' which we anticipate being a lot of fun. The children are welcome to share their knowledge related to this theme as it engages their enthusiasm and develops their oracy skills. We love hearing their ideas! 

We aim to ensure that the children experience a smooth transition from the Foundation Stage to Year 1. The Year 1 curriculum builds upon and extends the learning experiences that children have had in Reception. Learning through play, (learning and exploring) will continue to be a part of the week and form the basis of our afternoon learning and work. Please take a look at the curriculum map for details on specific subject areas on the link below.

The children continue to take part in daily reading practice sessions where they have the opportunity to develop reading skills as part of a group. Please aim to read with your child for ten minutes a day as this will have a huge impact on their progress.
